Finally, PINS!!!

We did it.... we got a pair of pins! Here's a look:

The Lady

The Gentleman
Together...

Both need to put on some weight, but give us a week or so.... they'll love our gut loaded crickets I'm sure. Cannot wait until to see the offspring! I got time though. I think the lady would be stunning with Spike, don't you?

We haven't quite decided on names for these two yet...

Are we seriously that lucky?

Lucky enough that out of hmm 7 geckos we bought over the course of a month, only ONE is male? REALLY? Well that's the way it's looking... just did weighing and sexing and will be moving Aladdin and Tails both to the ladies page and Doc Hudson will be going to the males.

During their inspection, we found out that Tails and Nemo both have red tipped crests. I tried getting pics of it but they really didn't come out at all and I don't "enhance" my photos...

Tails would really like to know why this camera is all up in her cheese whiz...

Perusing around Pangea, I found a female that looks exactly like our Mowgli (who yes, still looks female) for $300. Almost fell out of the chair for that one, luckily I was already on the floor. Mowgli is getting SO dark when fired...

And Ryan's favorite... CHEVY! Look at the patterning in this little one... plus dal spots are popping up.

We've updated our setup a little bit, considering there's been a few additions. I didn't clean up though, you get to see it how it usually is.

It's been asked as to how we keep the hatchlings: in critter keepers with plastic plants, paper towels, and a water bottle cap for food.

That's all for now... I will be going through the weights and changing them tomorrow.
Have a great weekend!

Save the day...

Or just save a gecko that is in need of a new home... that's what we did. We're always scouring craigslist for deals on terrariums and ran into a listing of a underweight gecko that was given to kid's uncle (who has his own reptiles) because he wasn't taking care of it. He is unlike any of the geckos we currently have. When I first saw him, he looked like what I would call a moon gecko, weird gray pattern. After taking him home, giving him food and spraying him down, he fired to a milky reddish chocolate with a THICK white dorsal. Unfortunately, he's about a year and a half old, but is only weighing 20 grams. He demolished a bowl of CGD with a few hours. He's been named Leonidus (after the movie 300).

Here's some photos (unfired and fired)

On another note.... I had completely updated all the weights and photos last week but Blogger had some major error and deleted the whole thing. They restored many people's blogs, just not mine. So I just went in and updated photos and weights. I'm not quite done with descriptions but will be soon.

Another set of beauties...

I don't know what it is about really warm days, but we always get hatchlings those days! Maybe they just want out of the warm egg. These are another set of Goliath x Rafiki eggs...  a bit different than the first.  When  I opened the container, the geckos were in a ball and when I tried to separate them to get them cleaned up with a q-tip, they were so stiff and not moving I thought they were dead. I was so worried but I kept cleaning them off anyway... especially when I saw that we had a little one with pinstripes!
When I had them separated, I almost gave up because they weren't moving... but then the pinstriped little one started breathing, so I started breathing, too. Then he ran right off the table... yup he was alive.

Good looking little one isn't he? We don't have a name for him yet though.

After getting him into his critter keeper, I started working on getting the second hatchling cleaned up. It took him longer to get ready for the world. Got an interesting zigzag dorsal on him... but the best part...

The sides! Look at that patterning! (Yes I used a flash for this photo, I don't like to do that)

We are still waiting for Gambit to give in and lay her eggs. She keeps digging in her laybox but that's all she does. She's a tease... and so are her last offspring... some days they look like red/cream others a odd brown/cream. I am going to be updating photos and weights either tonight or tomorrow so be sure to check those out!

Maybe it's time to find Pickles a lady...

Sneak Peek...

We had really good lighting come through the window yesterday and though I wasn't ready for an all out photo shoot... I snapped a few shots of our hatchlings.

Here's Uno (S-Patterned Dorsal) and Chevy (Extreme Harley)

Here's the latest two hatchlings: Zazu and Ducky (a little camera shy...)

Both sets of hatchlings have Goliath as a father, and he's proving to give amazing dorsal patterns we think. What do you think?

I don't quite know what's going on with Iago, but s/he refuses to fire up red like s/he was a few weeks ago when purchased. Seems like it will be a brown dalmatian, but look at how big some of those spots are already, can only hope there will continue to be more :0)

I know there's some debate about whether a gecko can actually be green, that it can only be olive... but here's two photos (at two totally different days) of Pickles... trying to prove otherwise ;)

A peek at how Aladdin is doing as well.... can only hope that this will be a girl, because Aladdin x Spike is going to be INSANE!

Gambit will be laying eggs soon (you can see them in her sides) but she's refusing to use her laybox. We have changed to the rubber mulch mats since her last lay. Nala took some convincing as well but she got over it.

Round 2...

They are here! Gambit x Goliath's first set of hatchlings arrived on Sunday. This is the first photo of them:

Already after only a few days the left gecko (Ducky) is becoming very light when not fired, and then getting REALLY dark when fired (looks like Mom unfired, and Dad when fired). Zazu on the other hand appears to have some red/cream action going on.. but of course, we all know this may change. No dal spotting at all (yet) but we hope to get some more photos this weekend.

Also, Nala x Spike eggs are here as of Sunday! These have their "red cheerio", thank goodness. We were really getting worried that she was going to keep laying duds, though she was labeled proven female.. that's just the pessimist in me I suppose.

We hope to get some updated weights and photos this weekend too.
We have paired Goliath up with Bagheera now, giving Gambit and Rafiki a much needed break. We are hoping for very high contrast offspring... with very black on the sides and yellow/cream dorsals.
 Hope everyone is doing well!
